Hearing test show no problems, but can't hear

My 18 year old son's speach and congnitive therapits and many of his other dr.s say that someone should write a book about my sons type of hearing loss because they have never seen or read about anything like it.  All his hearing test show everything working fine and he can hear sounds but can not hear more that a 3 word sentence.  He can read lips and or writen words with no problem.  I am trying to find help for him.   does anyone have any input.   Thanks

Hi.

Probably his hearing mechanism is ok, but the higher level processing required for information processing is not fine. This is indeed a rare case.

My son describes what he hears as muffled, like cotton in his ears.  What type of Dr. shoud we see and where is the best hospital in the world for dealing with this type of injury?
