Heart

  I would like to know if myasthenia gravis will weaken the heart.  Also will the disease cause pain?
-----==========
Dear Lilian,
thank you for the question. MG affects only voluntary or striated muscle and does not weaken the heart. However, there have been few case reports in the literature that claim an association between MG and heart problem (smooth or involuntary muscle). The association is weak though and it is not a prove of causation. From what we know so far, the answer is no. Also no to the second question. MG does not cause pain directly, although indirectly patient may for example complain of neck pain from neck weakness and muscle strain.
Good luck and I hope the above information helps. If you have further question or follow up information please don't hesitate to post it.

Recently my md told me I might have MG because of my double vision and my muscle weakness. Is there a cure?
