Heat Sensation in my Right Leg

In the last week, I started feeling this heat sensation in my knee area.  Now, it is moving in the lower part of my leg.  It comes and goes.  But it is getting pretty steady.  Possibilities?

My wife had an ankle that became superheated. It felt like infection. We went to an orthropedic surgeon. He fiddled around and took several non-invasive tests. Finally, they took a sample of something from the ankle joint. Quite suddenly that night we received a call from the Doctor and were directed to go directly to a nearby hospital.

Turns out that she had a e-coli infection in the ankle that was life threatening. They installed a direct port for intravenous antibiotic injections. After a hospital stay of two days, we were sent home and had a home health nurse bring antibiotic injections for several weeks.

No cut nor any puncture that permitted e-coli to enter bloodstream. Puzzling!
