Hello Dr. Drop Foot, Nerves EMG Test.

by shb90, Nov 20, 2007 07:56PM
Hi Dr. I just had an L/5-S1 disk micro surgery on the right side. When I came out of surgery i have what the Dr. calls drop foot. On my second surgery on the same disk the dr looked under his microscope and looked at my nerves and he said the the nerves were ok no pressure on them and they were not harmed in any way the he could detect.

I am getting feeling back slowly I'm able to move my foot down and left, to right. But no movement on moving my foot upward towards my chin. My toes are getting a little more movement. My dr.
prescribed a boot print off my leg it is to help my right foot from dropping and draging.

I need to have an EMG next week to see what the problem is i am getting a little worried. But the dr said you are getting movement and some feeling back. It is a good sign of healing. I have done some background searching and it can take up to years on healing. I just need to hear some other advice from a second oppion.

Thanks

Did you have drop foot before the surgery? If not, the drop foot may have been a complication of the surgery, even though no visible damage could be seen.

You should go through with the EMG to check whether there is an underlying pathology.  However, since there is note of improved movement and sensation in the foot, there is indication that the condition might improve with proper physical rehabilitation.

Hi... this is a follow up on my right foot, drop foot. I have wore a brace for over a year now. I have to drive with it, and anytime that i go and do arins for my family. My foot goes totally numb after i take it off. From wearing it all day.

I had my EMG and it shows that my nerves in my left leg, and right leg are getting weaker.

Now I have to go and have a fourth surgery on my lower back. Where i have had three other surgeries. I am very scared that if i go on with this other surgery. I will be in a wheel chair, or on crutches. Becaues the nerves are in the healing stages still.
