Help for Chronic pain due to a traumatic fall

by pita48, Jun 16, 2008 11:45PM
I fell in 2002, off a porch landing in a sitting position on concrete fracturing my coccyx.  I had a total coccygectomy in 2003.  After the surgery we found that I had also have three herniated discs.  It is easier to sit as a result of the surgery however I am still in constant pain.  I have to sit leaning forward all the time on a hard surface, this is now causing pain in my mid back from sitting this way for so long.  I have pain going down the back of both legs, pain that travels down the front of my legs into my knees. My feet tingle, have sharp pains and go numb. I cannot walk for more than 5 minutes I get severe lower back pain unless I use a cane or walker.  I am unable to lift anything heavier than a half gallon of milk without pain.  Even grocery shopping is extremely painful.  I cannot do any housework,  or laundry.  I really cannot do much at all.  I can drive however not far, it is painful and my feet go numb and or tingle.   I have been through numerous trigger point and block injections into my discs, and coccygeal area, physical therapy,  etc. None have helped for more than a week or so and I felt even worse after they wore off.  I had one injection that made me numb from the waist down for about 3 hours and other than being afraid It was the first time I was without pain in 5 and 1/2 years.  It was the best 3 hours I have had since I fell.  I am treated with pain meds which do take the edge off somedays but most of the time I am in excruciating pain.  I live in constant pain.  My life revolves around pain.  I have had or used every type of therapy (tens units, muscle stim., swimming, chiropractic, etc....  I have been referred to a neuro surgeon however he said my pain is to diverse to be caused by the discs so I am not a surgical candidate.   I have been trying to get approval for a implanted neuro stimulater.  I am probably leaving treatments out.  I have been seen by pain management docs, neurologists, neurosurgeons, chiropractors, psychiatrists, etc.  It seems everytime I make progress or a plan gets set up my docs either retire, leave the area, or they do not accept my insurance.   I feel like I am just beating my head against the wall..
Does anybody have any suggestions?   I do not know what else to do.   I would like to find a doctor who could give me some answers.  What is causing all of this pain?
What should I do?    HELP Me Please!
