Help with neurological exam terms

Help please, received my exam report today and I don't understand this lingo, and won't see the Doctor for a few months or so now until all tests, MRI's etc. are complete. Thought that some of you can help decipher the med. lingo from your experiences. Any help would be grateful.

- he had a mild action and resting tremor?

- deep tendon reflexes were 1+ across both upper extremities but hyperactive 3+ across both knees and 2+ across each ankle?

- plantar responses were equivocal, as he displayed very strong withdrawl (withdrawal) response?

- obtained more than 5 beats of sustained clonus across each ankle?

- considerable spasticity across both lower limbs?

- large amplitude clonus on hip flexion?

- abdominal reflexes, failed to elicit them on left side?

- evidence of upper motor neuron pathology?

- what is the reflex scale?

- Mcgill pain questionnaire, selected 9 of 15 words from severe pain category and 4 from moderate, what does that mean ?

and they said older looking man???

Thanks

Hi, upper motor neurone lesions usually lead to these kind of findings. Normally, brain send some inhibitory impulses to spine which keep our muscles in relaxed state. Whenever there is interupption in this signal either due to injury, disease etc, inhibition is lost at spinal level and as a result reflexes become hyperactive.

So, deep tendon reflexes, planter reflex etc are exaggerated. Pain caused may be due to spasticity is expressed by patient in form of answers to some questions (questionnaire), used to grade the pain from mild to severe.
