Help!

My husband has had problems with severe migraines for the past few years.  He gets physically ill (nausea, vomiting) and has to lie basically motionless in a quiet, dark room just to keep the pain from getting worse than it is.   When the dr first diagnosed him, he said he thought it had to with sinuses and gave him a prescription for Imitrex.  Just recently, (within the last month and a half to two months) my husband has gotten 4 severe migraines.  He typically gets as many in a year.  He finally went to the dr because he is tired of these headaches, and now the dr has told him he has high blood pressure, and doesnt know if the headaches are causing the high blood pressure, or if the high blood pressure is causing the headaches and has now also given him a prescription for high blood pressure (Atenolol) We are still awaiting results of a cat scan my husband had less than a week ago.

My questions:

1) How long does it take for cat scan results?  I am anxious as to what the results are.

2) My husbands 4th severe migraine was today.  Should we seek the help of a specialist?  I am very concerned about all of this, as you can imagine.  I told my husband today (after i saw how bad the headache was) that he HAS to call the dr tomorrow to find out about the cat scan results and to let them know he had another severe headache today.   An info or suggestions are appreciated!

hI,
Did imitrex help his migraine? Imitrex is prescribed for migraine and not for sinusitis. Also high blood pressure causes headache and not the other way around.I would suggest you to wait for the CT scan report and if other possibilities are ruled out please consult a headache specialist. Meanwhile also try to identify the trigger for his migraine, i know it is difficult but its worth a try!

Hi,
How is your husband doing now?
CAT scan results can be dispatched within 24-48 hours of doing it. It depends on unit protocol where you have done CAT scan as to when would they report it. But ideally it should be done within first 24-48 hours maximum.
I think you should consult a specialist of Migraine and also get your husband assessed by neurologist to rule out any other pathological state.
Hope this helps.
Bye.
