Hey guys!!!! How about some input-----Doctors preferred!!!

I have Generalized anxiety disorder and have spent the last year getting to the bottom of an ALS scare( tested out fine, emg, ncv, etc). I've had some problems during the past year that none of the experts have been able to explain except to chalk it up to anxiety. About a month ago ( days after my confirmation that I do not have ALS, I started to have excess saliva. No swallowing problems or weakness and no drooling( I check each morning when I get up, on the pillow). And then about a week later literally in a flash, I started  noticing when I say words with the S sound, it would kinda hiss like ""SSSara". This wasn't gradual, literally I was talking and I noticed it happpening in the middle of a sentence. It kinda of comes and goes but it hasn't disappeared  for about a couple weeks. I'm not hoarse or nasally sounding and my tongue has no atrophy. I know that excess saliva with ALS is not caused by an actual increase in saliva being produced but by problems with swallowing of which I have none. so whats up----is this anxiety too? The
ALS doc is an expert and used to lead a major university so I believe him that its not ALS.

That could be caused by the medications you take for GAD.  That stuttering sound may be from muscles tightening in your face...check the side effects on all your drugs.  Could be they need to change your medicines.  Also, I think the excess saliva is from the same thing.  You are a nervous wreck, I know, I have panic disorder, and I take tranquilizers to keep me calmer, as well as an SSRI to keep me from obsessing too much about scary stuff.  So, I think you should talk to your psychiatrist about your meds, see if that doesn't correct your symptoms, or try a new doc if they aren't helping.
