How do you get a second opinion?

I feel like my Neurologist is blackmailing me! I'm new to this stuff, though, so we'll see wha cha think.
I've have numbness and tingling in my legs for a year and arms face and scalp for about 3 months.
I was hospitalized for weakness and falls for 4 days 3 wks ago.
At my first visit post hospitalization, he answered almost all of my ?'s with "yes", "no" and "probably not".
He placed me on Neurotin, and ordered a second EMG. When I asked why I had to get another one, he didn't answer and said I can't schedule another visit with him until I get my EMG.
I called today bc I have had blurred vision and trouble swallowing and I am just supposed to follow up w him @ my appointment December 1st.
Is this typical? I'm not sure how Neurologists operate. I don't know how to get a second opinion and have it covered by insurance, but I sure do want one!

what was the doctors diagnosis for you?
Your insurance may only allow EMG's only after a certain period.  Since you had one recently you have to wait.
Call your insurance company and discuss this with them.
Sounds like you have neuropathy.
Suggest the doc do Nerve Conduction Studies as well.

Call your insurance company.  They should be able to advise you.

I don't think he is "blackmailing" you; sounds like he just isn't getting to the bottom of your problems; not helpful.

My diagnosis is Multiplex Neuropathy, with unknown cause. They are doing the EMG of the R side to compare to the L. My PCP is writing my insurance company for me, so hopefully with her help I can get a second opinion soon!
Just frustrated and SO ready to get back to normal!
