How to get Pediatric Physical Therapy when Ins. limits it?

How to get Pediatric Physical Therapy when Ins. limits it?

My Great Grandson (3 1/2) has mild CP. He was going to a great Physical Therapist who specializes in CP Children.
then insurance said only 13 visits per year.  He needs this therapy.....How can we get it?  Can an insurance
company deny help when its needed?   His Ped. Orthopedic Dr. even wrote a letter but the ins. company said
the company my grandson in law works for bought a policy and that is what it is. the Company will not buy
any different policy.
what can we do?  Is there any exercise equipment or physical therapy  help as these parents are financially strapped already from medical challenges. The therapist was charging $200. an hr. but it was full hour. He went 3 times a week.
They were told to get a swing set and what they needed on it to maybe help some, but it is $1300. and they do not have the money. Are there any organizations that help get things like that?
I cannot help as I am on limited income. I babysit with the other 2 children anytime she takes this child to the Dr.
He goes to preschool with an Early Intervention program at the public school in their area.
Any ideas on toys that might help or any way to get the exercise?  He is not toilet trained, is mildly borderline autistic
and has some issues there.
He has a very good brain....has picked up working on the computer very quickly and wants to do it constantly., but
he needs physical exercise for his neck/back/legs especially.
Any help appreciated.

Dear GG Ma,
I have a couple suggestions for you.  First, take a look at this CP website:

http://cpconnection.com/Therapies/PTOT/therapy-p.htm

That link talks about physical therapy.  It says a good therapist will teach the family how to do the PT exercises that your Great Grandson needs.  The webpage also has links to more pages that actually show clearly how these exercises are done.  This might work for your family.

Also, depending on their financial situation, they can try going to their County Health Clinic, which is public health care for people who cannot afford private care.  They charge according to income, some pay nothing, some pay just a little.  I think they provide physical therapy at some of the clinics, it depends on the size of the facility.  Other clinics refer out stuff like that, so that wouldn't help, though.

There are Cerebral Palsy organizations that may be able to additionally help your GGrandson's family with expenses involved in caring for a child with the disease, or at least give them a few leads on how to get some financing and other assistance.  Here are a few websites:

www.ucp.org
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/cerebralpalsy.html
www.cerebralpalsysource.com/Resources/foundation_cp/index.html

That last foundation website has a section on toys under Resources.  As for getting a specialized swingset that was suggested by the docs, once again some CP groups might can hook your family up with other families that give away their children's play equipment when their child outgrows it.  And most states have their own chapters of CP organizations, you could do a search for your state or city and try to get local help, which there is a section under Resources in that last link for that, too.

I do think it's wonderful that this boy enjoys a computer.  What a wonderful thing to have that kind of world open for him, relatively easy for a physically compromised person to use.  And I like how your family is trying to provide the best help for the boy, as autism and CP are much less debilitating with proper assistance.
