I have experienced rapid muscle loss lately

by jeepers103, Oct 03, 2009 09:07AM
I was recently diagnosed with Acid reflex and has been taking Omeprazole. Over the past month I have experienced pain in the groin area and also muscle loss and some pain on both sides of the pelvis. I have had it checked by a few doctors who felt the area and could find nothing wrong. I have had pain on my sides but I have scoliosis and just attribute it to my bad back. Lately I have been getting severe upper back pain. It finally goes away but I am left with a rapid heart beath and shakyiness. I noticed the last time this happened, I am beginning to feel tingly in my legs and some pain. I think I might be starting to experinece muscle loss in my legs as well. Under my arms appear to have lost muscle as well.

About a month ago I took a Colonoscopy and Ultrasound of Pelvis and Abdomen and it came out good. Since that time, I had pain in my pelvis and with my bladder - the urthera was sore. The Urologist said the pain may be a symnptom of IC and has since done the treatment - scope and distention. I also had a  CT scan of Abdomen - right and left. All tests were ok. I have sent in a request to Mayo CLinic because I am really scared about what is going on. I still have not heard anything yet.

Please help me with any advise.

Hi,
Multiple sclerosis and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are the diseases that lead to loss of  muscle mass. Since you have associated symptoms of tingling in the legs and back pain, these diseases need to be ruled out. Please consult a neurologist for the same. A series of MRI, lumbar puncture and a meticulous examination of the symptoms is necessary for the diagnosis. EMG and nerve conduction studies may also be helpful in diagnosis. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
