Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and Concussion

Is an individual w/ idiopathic intracranial hypertension at higher risk of complications from a concussion. I was diagnosed with the above a number of years back. My pressure remains high however, optic nerve sheath fenestration has stabilized the optic nerve. I tend to avoid some higher risk activities due to the assumption that I can't afford to excarbate the situation. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!

There is no literature to support that idiopathic intracranial bypertension patients are at higher risk for complications compared to the general public. As a rule neurologist recommend avoiding situations which may lead to concussion, and recommend helmets for sports activities which may lead to injury. I hope this helps, and sorry for the delay.

Hi there, I have just learned of this site today. I also have Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. It is nice to know I am not alone. I have recently had a lumbar shunt installed to help control my pressure. The optic verve sheath was too risky due to the amount of swelling of the nerves and the hemoraging. I can not help you with your question, but I am curious to see if you notice a higher pressure level in the evening? I came home from surgery and the first time I was able to lay in a flat bed I noticed an elevated pressure. I was wondering if you experienced the same thing?
