Iis demyelination a disease?

My husband (age 51)had many symptons all within a week.  He has gone from working at a construction job to being in the bed with a feeding tube.  Sleeps a lot, slow movement or none at all, may or may not know me, his date of birth, what month it is etc.   MRI shows at least 17 small lesions.  Biopsy came back showing no cancer, just demyelinating disease. Spinal didn't have o.bands, so prob. not MS.   Can you suggest any specific disease this may be?  Or if there is a specialist somewhere for demyelination?   Thanks

There are several demyelinating diseases.  The doctors can't give you a more specific diagnosis?
