I'm tired, and now I'm shaking, sometimes uncontrolably.

I got a virus of some type about 2 1/2 weeks ago.  I ended up in the hospital very dehydrated.  They gave me 2 liters of NaCl and a shot of Phenergan and sent me home.  The weakness was overwhelming and I spent 2 days in bed.  Since then I am still weak and I get tremors(violent,whole body) that sometimes prevent me from walking normally.  The tremor is worse in bright light and loud noise.  The tremors originate deep inside my chest and go out from there to my head, arms, hands, voice and at worst my legs too.  I was readmitted to the hospital where they did many blood tests, CAT scan and MRI.  All essentially normal, I am anemic 10.3 Hem.  The neurologist increased my Zoloft to 200mg. per day,  My family Dr. started me on Adavan and Pred.  The tremors are somewhat better, not as violent, and I am back to work light duty.  I can't lift my feet as well as before when I walk I trip a lot.  I am having trouble concentrating and when I get the least bit nervous or upset or happy, the tremor comes back.  I have Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Arthritis, Acid Reflux, Complicated Migraine headaches.  I take Zoloft, Prevacid, Arthrotec, Bumex, Potassium, Singular and just recently Adavan, and Pred.  I work as a Vet Tech at a small Animal Hospital.  I am very concerned that I will not be able to do my duties at the job I love.  I am very weak and get confused easily, which is not like me at all. When I get tired or the phone rings a lot I start with the tremor. I have appointments with my Neuro Dr. in 4 weeks and a Gastro Dr. in 3.  What else can I do? Should I be more concerned? Please Help

Sometimes after a severe viral illness (depending on how extensive, if there was meningitis, etc...) there may be some neurological problems afterwards including cognitive defects.  Not sure what to make of the tremor (would have to see for myself), but there are a number of things that could possibly cause this.  One, you're on a lot of medications, some of which can certainly cause tremor such as the zoloft and prednisone.  Second, it may be a stress reaction to the whole illness. Third, it could be something else like thyroid disease or electrolyte abnormalities like low calcium. Fourth, it is possibly part of the neurologic sequelae of the viral illness. These are just a few possibilities.  Your doctor should be able to help sort things out In the meantime, relax and try to lay low until your neurological appointment.  My bet is that the prednisone (which I'm assuming is for the asthma) may be contributing to your tremor.  As soon as your doctors feel you are stable enough from an asthma standpoint to come off the steroids, I would try to taper down ASAP.  Good luck.

I am not a Dr, but here is my 2 cents.  Under the advice and supervision of your doctors, wean yourself off most of those drugs.  You are a set up for powerful drug interactions, taking so many.  You may have some sort of unusual side effect of some/all of those drugs.

Thank you for your answer to my question.  The Pred the Dr. gave me was for the tremor.  He said if my brain or spinal cord had some inflamation (inflammation) this may help or if the tremor was due to a Complicated Migraine.  I will try to 'hang in there' until things clear up and I see my specialists.  Thank you again for your help.

I was on Prilosec for acid reflux. It, like Prevacid can inhbit the absorption of B vitamins. You can get an alternative health book and do some research. I have been diagnosed and misdiagnosed
so far the only thing that has helped has been B12. For acid reflux I  have been taking acidolphilius. These are natural and take time to work. Take charge of your health. You are the only one who really knows how you feel. It sounds like you,like me,depend on the medical community to solve your health problems. That's a mistake.
