Intermittent extremity pains

Intermittent extremity pains

I'm a 31 y/o female w/intermittent extremity pains. Hx: 1997  had preemie at 28 weeks via section. 1998 began having sharp pains in the vagina. Never found cause, saw gyn repeatedly. This gradually went away after about a yr. & only intermittent now. 1999 more preterm labor w/2nd child. Severe pain in foot/ankle during pregnancy for a couple of days and then intermittent extremity pains. Still have extremity/groin pains. Sharp, shooting, jolting, not related to movement & occur anywhere on arms & legs. No numbness/tingling or rash. Occ. tremor w/resistance. Will have pains a couple of weeks & then they go away for awhile & come back. My 5 y/o preemie complains of similar pains in her arms & legs & I've never complained to her about my symptoms. She has seen Dr. Singsen CCF-Cleveland & he diagnosed Benign Hypermobile Joint Syndrome. I have been to 3 gyns., dermatologist (intermittent pimples on buttocks), CCF rheumatologist & gen. practitioner. Even saw psych. due to this anxiety. Worried that maybe I had HSV due to preterm birth, vag pains and pimples but had neg. culture, neg. blood tests for IGG and IGGM HSV-1&2. Negative MRI of brain & C-spine (r/o MS), negative ANA, sed rate, RPR, etc. My GP casually mentioned HIV could be the underlying cause but have regularly donated blood in the past & have been in monog. relationship for last 8 years.  I am going crazy about my symptoms & those of daughter & don't know where to go next. My GP says fibromyalgia but I think it is because he doesn't know what else to look for & wouldn't my CCF rheumatologist have diagnosed this?

Sorry to hear about your symptoms. Glad that everythign is normal so far. They do not sound like a typical peripheral neuropathy which is an abnormality of the nerves in your limbs, but it could be an atypical painful peripheral neuropathy. It's possible that it;s inherited as your daughter appears to be having similar symptoms. This can be evaluated by laboratory tests and an EMG. Also, cOnsider seeing a neurologist for a formal examination. HIV is a possibility, but not a strong consideration.  As for symptomatic management, try neurontin - a medication that helps with nerve type pain. Good luck.
