Internal Carotid Dissection

by Jan310, Oct 13, 2007 11:10PM
Three years ago I was diagnosed with an internal carotid dissection that was 99% occluded.  After a year of coumadin therapy and no change, I was sent to a major hospital in the midwest for an angiogram and hopefully stent placement.  During the procedure the artery totally closed and now it's 100% occluded.  I am 44 years old.  Apparently the dissection is very high up and quite long.

We believe this occured due to chiropractic manipulation or from painting.  I did have a TIA like episode where I lost vision very briefly while I was painting.  I assume this is when this happened.

My doctors continue to tell me not to worry about having only one carotid artery. Since I still have pulsitale tinnitus in the opposite ear all the time, it's hard to not worry about it.  I do have lots of new collateral flow to my brain, but I still worry that it could happen to the other side.  What are the chances of this?  Also, my vision in my right eye is good, but never seems to be clear even with glasses.  Could this have affected my eyesight in only one eye?  Lastly, should I avoid any activities?

Thanks so much.
