Involuntary Eye Movement

Within a couple of minutes of closing my eyes, my eyeballs begin moving very rapidly on their own. If I open my eyes, it stops. I've also noticed that my bottom eyelid twitches almost constantly (annoying).I also get twitches over other parts of my body. You have said in other posts that twitches can be a symptom of something underlying problem (i.e., one may notice twitching when they are stressed, but the stress is not the root cause of the twitching). What could cause the eyeballs to move around like that (it only happens when I close my eyes to sleep)? The only medication I'm taking right now is trazodone (because I can't fall asleep past the moving eyes).

This is a difficult symptom to clarify by neans of a brief posting but one
possibility does come to mind which may be worth considering.
This is a syndrome called eyelid myoclonia in which there is twitching of
the eyelids after closing the eyes, this is also asociated with minor
jerks of other parts of the body.
The best way to investigate this would be by means of an EEG which characteristically shows
diagnostic changes during the episode.
