Involuntary twitching--side effect of Rx?

by malli52, May 08, 2009 06:46PM
I have been taking Gabapantin 400mg four times daily plus Lyrica BID and Nortryptalin 30mg and Clorazapam .5mg HS for pain management. I have an as yet undiagnosed condition that has systematically caused pain from my head down to my spine and limbs within 5 months, progressively worsening. I can't describe it all because my treatment masks the symptoms by keeping me on analgesics all the time.
What worries me (among many other things!) is this new pattern of twitching fingers, and legs, usually the third hour after taking my Rx (which is due to be taken again in an hour). My fingers feel activated and if not occupied with some other use start to move and twitch. I also twitch in my legs and upper arms occasionally.
My MD mentioned seratonin causing this side effect which is why I switched from Cymbalta to Lyrica 4 days ago.
Is this sx possibly a new manifestation of my underlying disease or can it be a side effect of these Rxs?

Nortryptalin on a list of side effects appears to create occasional cases of tardive dyskinesia. Google "Patient Education Tardive Dykinesia". Of course it can cause temporary movement disorders which are not of concern and can be treated with a side effect pill but tardive dyskinesia should be ruled out. I would suggest obtaining a consult with a neurologist who is a movement disorders specialist. If you are diagnosed I could post more about what has been used to treat it in me but they would at that point change the medication to something that can't cause it. I am not aware of Neurontin causing it (look at the medication website) and Klonopin actually treats it as I have tardive dyskinesia and its been of help. A movement disorders specialist could give specific clinical advice though.
