Is fever associated with scoliosis?

by spellmanns, Aug 29, 2007 11:43PM
My 15 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with scoliosis.  I am still learning about the severity and additional info.  Waiting on appt with specialist we were referred to in the city.  All I know is that she is at "34 degree with significant rotation".  Suspected a possible tethered cord but doctor did not see the typical "dimple presented with tethered cord".  All I do know is that we initially went to the doctor because she has significant back pain following heavy activity and at the time had ran a fever of around 100 for a week with no real response to the Tylenol.  The doctor didn't mention a relation between the fever and the scoliosis diagnosis and it did subside at the time however, she is again running the fever, 3 weeks later.  Due to the referral to the specialist, I hate to drag her back to the doctor just for a fever.  I'm curious if the fever is part of the scoliosis thing and if so, what could that mean?  Getting worried waiting on specialist.

I don't think that fevers are a part of scoliosis. Maybe the fever is because of the pain, or something. I have had scoliosis since I was 11, now I'm 18, and it only gave me back pain. When I was first diagnosed I had a 23 degree curve, which progressed to about 50 degrees last year. Scoliosis does not affect the immune system I think.

Hello.

Scoliosis is a result of some illness or pathology. Tethered cord is one of them. Has her MRI of the spine shown anything ?

I would recommend that you should show her to a doctor to find out the cause of fever. At present it, does not look like the fever is associated with scoliosis. But, the two conditions have come together. This could be significant.

Regards
