Is it a tumor?

Is it a tumor?

I'm a 57-year-old white male in generally good health.   I'm a lifelong non-smoker with mild hypertension (treated) and a family history of cancer (ovarian, pancreatic, colon, lung).

For the past 6 weeks I've been experiencing a dull pain across the upper front left quadrant of my head, from the middle of my left cheek up to the top of my head.

The pain is intermittent and unpredictable.  I most often notice it when I touch my face around the left eye or when I touch my scalp above the left side of my forehead.  But if I press down hard in these areas, the pain does NOT get worse.

Sometimes the pain occurs without me touching myself, and it's a dull throbbing pain that lasts a few seconds and goes away.

The pain seems to bother me the least when I'm on my feet and active.

The condition has been constant for six weeks; no better, no worse.  There seems to be no pattern to when I experience the pain.  And I have no other symptoms.

As a physical problem, I would describe the pain as mildly annoying, no worse than the arthritis in my left wrist, and with no negative impact on my normal routine.

But I'm worried about what might be causing it.

My doctor examined me in his office and told me the problem is not uncommon for someone my age.  He thinks my trigeminal nerve has been infected by a herpes virus.   He prescribed no treatment or medications and told me to come see him again if it gets worse.

I'm wondering if what I'm describing could be associated with a brain tumor.
