I have a 3 1/2 yr old son who was diagnosed with AutismAutism Autism - resources. His eyes work independently of each other, like he turns one off. He also has Developemental Apraxia of SpeechHearing or speech impairment - resources Speech disorders that has not been diagnosed. I don't know what to do I have people telling me he is not AutisticAutistic behavior, but has something else. He is very social and smart, follows directions and acts like any other 3yr old except he cannot speak, says some words he has made up to get things he wants. He was very delayed in Gross motor and fine motor skills. He cannot draw or feed himself. He has sensoryNumbness and tingling intregration problems and knows no fearFears and phobias or understands fearFears and phobias, doesn't know difference between cold and hot. I need help and answers if you have any. I fear he is not seeing his world as he should. I have taken him to 5 eye specialists who say there is nothing wrong with his vision. So what is happening???????
Yes we took him to a Neurologist at 12mos. dismissed having no issues with brain, had CT and MRI. He was diagnosed by a psycologist at Emory Autism Center at 18mos old when he exibited more autistic like behaviors that he has since out grown. He is seeing a SLP who engages in oral motor with some changes over the course of 2yrs and just recently an OT who does not think he has Autism. Still at loss as to what could be possibly wrong. We have done all the genetic testing we can do and still no answers. When you look at him you would think he has lazy eye till he switches eyes on you then it gets confusing. He gets vey close to the tv to watch it, when I took him to eye specialist they said prescript is normal and so is overall health and structure. Anyone have any ideas or what to do next?
I hope you see this as it is a long time from your question. There is a subspecialty of Neurology called Neuro-ophthamology. Emory (or another large, academic center) should have such a department. You might consider an evaluation. Quix
