Is the EEG and the Visual Evoked Potentials test pretty much the same thing?

My son had an EEG this week, but they said it was a perfectly normal study and nothing abnormal was seen. He is scheduled to have a VEP next week, which was ordered by another doctor, so does that also mean that it will be normal too? In other words, are these 2 tests looking for the same thing?

He has had major and minor visual disturbances that come and go for the last year.  He only had the minor ones happen during the EGG, but again, nothing showed up in the results.  Thank you for helping!

No, it doesn't mean it will be normal. The VEP tests his optic tract (or his visual tract.) The EEG tests for seizures, epilepsy and some other similar types of diseases of the brain. They test separate issues of the brain.
