Hope you can help me...getting very discouraged


I have had a cerebral MRI that showed lesions of 4mm back in March, and the doctor ordered another one which I did last month, to see if the lesions on the brain have grown..  Did not get those results yet, I'm afraid to go get the results..  I constently lose stenght in my legs which cause me to fall.. I mainly use a wheelchair at home.. I fall asleep all the time, very very tired..  My question is: Is it normal for MS patients to have some limb swelling, arms and legs, face and stomach area?  Also, I usually get a cold about once a year, that lasts about 7 days, but I had a cold in April that lasted 25 days, and still have one now for the past 22 days, both those colds were very bad.  Is that normal if I do have MS ?  thanks

Thanks for the question. I'm afraid you did not give me too detailed a history to go on. I think the simple answer is you have to follow up on the last MRI you had especially since you are using a wheelchair at home. If you do have MS there are several drugs on the market currently that can help slow the progression of the disease. It is not usual to have swelling from MS itself. I'm not sure  that the current "cold" is related to MS but I think it is even more reason you must followup with your local doctor so a diagnosis can be made. GS
