Knee arthroscopy just causing more pain?!

Knee arthroscopy just causing more pain?!

So yesterday I had a knee arthroscopic surgery to fix my meniscus and remove a piece of floating cartilage there. it went fine, I got general anesthesia and woke up, ate some cookies and drank some sprite and went home (so y moms says, I don't remember any of it). I got home and elevated, left the ace bandages on, iced it 20 minutes on and off. My doctor gave me tylenol #3 with coating on it and that only made the pain worse. My mom called the surgical ceter after having me take 1 tablet per 4 hours and the surgeon now prescribed Vicodin. I took the Vicodin once every four hours and it didn't help at ALL.

That happened yesterday and today it's like a billion times worse. I'm only 13 and I'm like bawling (Which is NOT like me) because it hurts so bad. It's VERRYYYY swollen (my whole right leg) and somewhat red. It's a lot warmer than my other leg and the pain is UNBEARABLE. It feels like the worlds worst cramping all throughout my right leg and it's SOOOOO annoying.

My mom won't call my doctor/surgeon again because it is "too early" to assume anything. I looked up my symptoms and it points to a blood clot :( I'm VERYYY worried, VERYYYY much in pain, and VERRYYY mad my mom won't react. I can't even go up the stairs it hurts so bad so I am sleeping on my couch.

Is this normal for post-arthroscopic knee surgery?? Have you experienced this?? What do I do about of? Make my mom take me to a different doctor?

Hi there. This severe unbearable pain and red, inflamed leg after knee arthroscopy is not normal post operative. you need to go to the emergency department as soon as possible since this could be a deep venous thrombosis due to venous stasis of blood during the surgery when you were under the effects of general anesthesia and effect of tourniquet application usually used by the surgeon to achieve a bloodless field. DVT can cause fatal complications like pulmonary and cerebral embolism causing respiratory collapse and stroke respectively.Less common possibility is of a nerve entrapment in the joint capsule. Therefore, my suggestion is not to delay an appointment with your treating surgeon. Hope this helps. Take care.
