L5 Nerve Compression

An MRI has shown that I have a disc bulge that is compressing my L5 nerve.  Trama occurred 3 months ago, and a neurosurgeon told me yesterday that surgery would not fix the nerve damage, and that I will likely be left in my current situation, which is having a slight drop foot.  I am not in pain anymore, but wonder whether I should get a second opinion?  I had thought that if the compression of the nerve was removed, that the nerve would recover.  Anyone had a similar experience that can offer some advice?

hi dwb123,
if the disc bulge is causing the nerve problem, then there are very good chances of recovery following the disc removal as these nerve may improve till 12 months
If your nerve root had been damager via nerve root avulsion injury or there is full break in the nerve root continuity, then there is no scope of improvement.

So don;t wait to take a second opinion from neurosurgeon,Spine surgeon,
and keep us informed also,

regards
abhijeet
