L5S1 SCAR TISSUE COMPRESSION

L5S1 SCAR TISSUE COMPRESSION

I have gone under L5S1 surgery on May, 2007. After one year, due to pain radiation in my right leg / toes & thigh, I found that through MRI with dye it's because of scar tissue bulging. Later, I have gone under ayurvedic treatment, but it did not help. If I go for one day walking for 20 minutes, I will have pain / burning in my surgery spot and I can feel very well that scar tissue is bulging. Sometime, I do ice application, but it helps only for few minutes. As well, I do every day stretch, but it helps for few hours.  Ultimately, I want to get rid of this problem, as well, I want know is this happening because of vitamin deficiency? Please advice to me for the right treatment ASAP.

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

Local back pain, as you are describing, is usually a result of irritation of or damage to structures of the spine (e.g., periosteum, ligament, dura, and joints).  The pain is usually exacerbated by activities that cause these structures to have increased pressure load (e.g., prolonged sitting or walking up steps). Prolonged irritation of these joints can cause muscle spasm described as a diffuse, burning pain.

Treatment of these types of pains includes NSAIDs and physical therapy. If no improvement with these, a pain specialist may opt to do a procedure called facet joint block.

I would discuss the results of your MRI and your feeling of bulging with your back surgeon. A vitamin deficiency is likely not causing the local back pain at the surgical site.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
