Lack of Delta & REM sleep

by kathyb0313, Aug 06, 2008 06:34PM
I recently had a Polysomnograph completed; the results though confirming cause for my symptoms are disturbing.  My sleep architecture shows:
                     Stage I = 30.2%    Stage II = 65.1%    Stage III & IV = 0% and REM = 4.7%
Respiratory disturbance index was 1.6 and Periodic Limb Movement was 2.3 w/ an arousal rate of .8
                     Oximetry baseline = 94% w/ a low = 90%

I take Wellbutrin, Celexia & Voltarin.  Since the study 2+ weeks ago I have significantly dropped my caffeine intake and have zero after 1 PM in the afternoon - - this has not helped my sleep but has significantly impacted my ability to function during the daytime.   Please Help!!!!!

I don't have trigger points for Fibro & all blood work has checked out.  I have a history of Hodgkins (20+ years).  My research hasn't led me anywhere and I seem to have a lot of folks stumped.  I REALLY need a viable path to take to find the source of my sleep problems!

You don't say specifically what your sleep problems are, but I can tell you that it is common to not have any REM sleep during a sleep study.  One is in an artificial environment, as you know, so it is difficult to reproduce what kind of sleep you have at home.  You could ask for a home sleep study to see if it provides more information.  If your sleep problem is trouble getting restorative sleep, have you tried an exercise regime?  Exercise can do wonders to promote sleep.  What does your physician say?
