Laser Therapy

: : I am currently getting laser therapy for pain (possibly Arachnoiditis).  Are there any risks to laser treatments?  Is there a limit to the number of treatments a person can receive?  Any information will be greatly appreciated.                     Thank You,
  : :                                  Susan R.

: Could you please specify what sort of laser therapy you are recieving, to what
: part of your body and the sort of symptoms being treated and we will do
  : our best to help.
Thank you Dr for writing back.  It is cold laser infra-red, it is being positioned directly on pain areas.  L4-L5 where I have pain from a myelogram and sacral area and coccyx bone where I get excruciating pain I developed after bloodpatches x 2 and saline injection. It is non-invasive and I am told there are no side effects.  It sure beats all the pain medicine if it helps me.  This is only my 2nd week of treatments.  The Dr and I both are very hopeful.
  Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the question Susan but I'm not sure we can be of much help. I'm not familiar with the tech and could find nothing on the medline search regarding cold laser infra-red. I know that radio-frequency lesioning has been used to battle chronic pain but I'm not sure about the laser. You could consider reposting your question on the general medical forum since this is probably a tech used by anesthesiologists. Good luck.
