Left Side Heahache when lying down

by kg524, May 14, 2007 12:00AM
For the past few months I have been getting recurring headaches.  Mostly intense pressure in the forehead that started with nech/shoulder stiffness.

One thing that is a bit odd though, is when I lie down.  I can go to bed with no headache, but if I roll onto my left side, my head almost instantly beings to hurt...starts with a dull ache, but if I stay there it will start to really hurt.  I also tend to wake up each morning with a headache.  A hot shower though seems to make it go away.

My doc put me on imitrex which seems to help...

I do work in a fairly stressful job and spend a good deal of time on the computer.  Was kind of chalking the stiff neck/resulting headache up to stress from that.  But the lying on the left side has me a bit confused...

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks!

I have had the same thing except lying on right-side while sleeping. I have had a constant headache with all the same symptons for 6-weeks now? Not sure what it is? I been to 2-ENT Doctors and now going to a neurologist? Any suggestions???

Hi,
The cause of headache while lying on a side could be nerve compression that may be aggravated by the particular posture. Another cause could be a poor blood circulation to the head in the particular position. Sinus headaches also manifest with pressure in the forehead and get aggravated by lying down due to collection and draining of pus. Due to the same reason the headache is worse in the mornings. Please go for MRI of the neck and head and consult an ENT specialist, neurologist and a cardiologist for examination, diagnosis and treatment. Please try Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
