Leg Pains and Muscle Twitches

In the fall of 2002 I gegan having itching sensations on various areas of my body. My doctor indicated that he could not identify a physical cause and that stress probably played a big role. The itching disappeared after 3 months.
In Nov 2002 I began have muscle pain in my calf areas on both legs and pain in my knees.  This comes and goes and is sometimes worse than others, sometimes with mild cramping.  Accompanying these symptoms are infrequent muscle twitches (not visible).   I should note that I seem to have arthritis in the knees (they grind when I walk) and I have bursitis in both shoulders. In addition I have on again off again lower back pain and wrist pain. After becoming an internet junky I have diagnosed myself with everything from ALS to MS to Fibro etc. (Obviously I am not a doctor but am overly obsessed with health and unexplained body aches and pains.)
I am 45 years old and work out at he gym every day.  I don't know whether I should be concerned about ALS or MS or whether I am just getting older and starting to notice aches and pains.  This really concerns me. Any comment would be helpful.

Hello
Thanks for the info.
My leg pains seem to be subsiding but I do have a visible muscle twitch in my arch (off and on).
I saw a podiatrist who beleives that my leg and foot problems are not neuro but related to alignment problems with my feet, legs and spine.
I do not have any weakness, stumbling or other neuro symptoms of ALS or MS.
Boy, the internet can really scare you and make your mind do crazy things in diagnosing your problems.  I will probably continue to monitor progress and will keep you informed.

You have just described the exact symptoms I have been experiencing since July.  I thought it might be Lyme disease but tests came back negative.  I have had blood work done and all was normal.  In addition I have had a sonogram done and that too was normal.  If you find out anything else please let me know.  Thank you

Not the typical presentation for either ALS or MS.  If it's just aches and pains with the perception of muscle twitching rather than true objective weakness, muscle wasting and actual fasciculations, then it doesn't sound like an urgent neurological problem.  However, if the symptoms do bother you, then consider going to your PCP to have it checked out and do some routine laboratory tests like electrolytes and muscle protein levels (CK,aldolase) just to make sure everything is ok. Good luck.
