Leg problems

I am a 53 year old male, and have always been in good health.  In late 2006 I began to notice that when I lied down I would get cramps in the bottoms of both feet.  Also when I sneezed or coughed the muscles in the front of my upper legs would contract so violently that it would cause me to fall if not holding to something.  In March of 2007 I awoke one morning with sever fever and cold symptoms and I could only walk a short distance without having to rest as my legs would become exhausted.  The cold and fever was treated and went away but the weakness in both legs continued.  After several months both legs began to be numb and both feet felt like they were frostbit.  I tried Chiropractic treatments with no improvement.  In mid 2007 an MRI showed that I had stenosis in the lower neck and thoracic spine.  I had fusion surgery on the neck in December of 2007 (the surgeon said the damage was not as bad as the MRI showed) recovered within a week but there was no change in the legs.  In June 2008 I had a lamenectomy on the thoracic spine and immediately the numbness and frostbit feelings were gone but the front of both upper legs felt like they were sunburned (I was told this was normal after spinal surgery and would go away after a month or so) and there was constant pain in both legs which felt like my knees and ankles were worn out.  After a few months the skin on the bottom of both feet began to feel like old cardboard.  If I stretched my toes upward it would feel like the skin was tearing apart and when I moved them downward it feels like the skin is folding up like an accordion.  I am still having the sunburned feeling in both legs, as well as the constant pain, and at my last contact with my neurosurgeon he told me it might be 2 years before the symptoms improve.  I am currently taking Vicodin for pain and Cymbalta for nerve pain.  I still experience cramping in both legs which will mainly occur when laying down.  It seems that if I try to reduce the Cymbalta the cramping increases.  From the beginning any symptoms that occurred in one leg has always been mirrored in the other.  Also there has never been any sudden change or shooting pain.  It always takes a week or more to notice any change in symptoms.  Recently I have began to have a burning sensation in both feet.  It is not excessive but varies from week to week and feels like both feet are in an oven.
In addition, before the leg problems developed, I had about a six month span where I was in the hospital for several days at a time, almost once a month, with nausea and the doctors could never find a cause for it.  None of the normal nausea treatments would work (fenegren, etc.) But they found they could give me something I believe was called Dilaudid, which was a pain reliever that was supposed to cause nausea but in my case it would immediately relieve the nausea.  I never had any more nausea after the neck surgery but about 3 months ago I fell and jarred my neck and suddenly I felt nausea and tried several normal medications that did nothing.  When I took a Vicodin the nausea immediately went away.  This may or may not be related in any way.
Does anyone have any similar accounts or information that might help?
