Lips

Our son sadly passed away in March this year and I have been feeling quite unwell since then.

During the past few weeks I have been experiencing dreadful tingling in my lips (and sometimes in my tongue).  As I have had lots of blood tests done recently (and they are all normal except my GGT is very high in my LFTs) I cannot understand what could be causing this.

Could it be a problem with the central nervous system as I do feel quite "nervy" at times. Do you have any helpful suggestions to get rid of it?

I get a tingling around my mouth and cheeks (the ones on my face) whenever I feel anxious or stressed.
When I think about it, it gets worse.
Does this sound like what's going on with you?
please answer.

Hi.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I do hope you and your family are coping with this tragedy.

With regards to your symptoms, tingling lips is a non-specific symptom and can be caused by a lot of conditions. Do you experience any other symptoms? Have your potassium, magnesium, vitamin, and hemoglobin levels been determined? Some vitamin and mineral deficiencies have been known to cause this symptom.

Depression and stress can also cause this symptom. If you have not done so, it might be advisable to talk to a therapist.

An elevated gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) is usually associated with liver injury although it can also occur in congestive heart failure or cholestasis. Do you have any symptoms that would point to a liver problem? An elevated GGT can, however, occur even when you don’t have symptoms. This elevation may be temporary as a result of certain drugs or alcohol intake within 24 hours of the test. However, an elevated GGT, by itself, is not an immediate cause for alarm. Your physician can opt to observe and do another LFT assay after a few weeks.

Hope this helps.
