Long-term headache

Long-term headache

I had a thallium stress test on May 25, 2007.  That afternoon, I developed a headache.  I called the cardiologist and was told to take Tylenol which didn't help.  I then started taking Excedrin Migraine, which also did not help.  I tried to get an answer from the cardiologist, my primary care physician and/or the cardiologist who administered the test to see if the thallium stress test is the cause of this bad headache.  I cannot get an answer from any of them.

I was referred to a neurologist.  The MRI of my brain was normal.  She wanted to give me Cymbalta. I said I don't want an antidepressant for a headache.

On June 9th, I stopped all the headache medicine, hoping that would help in case I was experiencing rebound headaches.  Still not gone.  I went to a local headache treatment center.  I was given a quick I.V. of magnesium sulfate and told to take Magnesium Oxide 400 mg per day and B2 Riboflavin 400 mg per day.  It has subsided only a little and I still have some occasional dizziness.  Now they say I should try prednisone for a week to see if that breaks it.

I've never gotten migraines or chronic tension headaches before. I am hoping it was just a coincidence that this developed after the test and not because of it. This is really scary and even scarier is the attitude of my primary care doctor (who chalks it all up to "anxiety"). I feel like I should try acupuncture.  This is all so weird.  I'm suffering and getting such varied help or none at all from the doctors I thought would help me.

Any advice?  Thank you.

Can headache's cause visual aura or just migraines? I know it's off-topic but I'm sure you know more than i do.

Keep on pushing. You yourself is the only one that truly knows your body. I have been suffering from severe headaches and migraines now for 8 years since I was pregnant with my 2nd child. It has gotten so bad that working is impossible.  Make sure you see a good headache specialist at a major university hospital. They are up on the latest of things and research. And yes, headaches can cause all kinds of visual auras and if go on for  a while can lead to migraines.

My mother is now in the hospital after battling a constant headache for the past 3 weeks.  The pain has got to much for her to bear.  The did a CT scan and everything came back fine, They did a MRI and we will know the results sometime this morning.  She has had migraines since as far back as I can remember but has been on medication for it for about the last 3 years so the migraines have subsided a bit since then?  Can anybody shed some light on what may be happening???

I've been having intense headaches now for 7 weeks which seem to move around the head but is mainly focused on the top and I also have an itchy flakky scalp ,my general health is ok but i'm soo low at the moment and can't leave the house because I get panic attacks. My doctor has given me co-codamol which I have taken for 6 weeks and they are not helping in any way, so now she suggested I go and see a physiotherapist which won't be for another 4 weeks, it's really getting to me because I don't seem to be getting any answers. Any advice
