Losing weight

by trudee, Jul 03, 2009 02:42PM
Had an Mri and the doctor came in and asked me who I lived with. (Endcrinoligist) and he said you need to see a neurologist and that was it. This is what the paperwork said that he gave me. Findings: Flair imaging demonstrates approximately 8 subcortical white matter areas of signal aleration. These have increased in nmber as compared to prior examination. There are two new lesions within the high vertex posterior frontal subcortical white matter. There another new lesion present within the white matter adjacent to the frontal horn of the left lateral ventricle. There is no abnormal enhancement associated with these lesions. This is suspicios for progrssion of demyelinating disease.
There is no mass effect or midline shift. The basiliar cisterns are patent. The intracranial flow voids are preserved. The midline structures are preserved. An empty sella is again noted. Dedicated imaging through the sella demonstrates no evidence for selar or suprasellar mass. There is normal enhancement of the pituitary gland.  the pituitary stalk midline. The cavernous sinuses and cavernous internal carotid ateries are unremarkable. The optic chiasm is unremarkable. The is an incidental note of increased fluid within the left mastoid air cells which has increased as compared to prior examination.

Will losing weight help. I am 5'3 and I weigh 290lbs. Does the contribute to my problem? I have gained about 80lbs in the last 5 years but I have gaimed 50lbs since last year September and when I was first seen by the neurologist they diagnosed with mirgranes and  I still have bad headaches now. But when I exercise sometime it maks me feel better, but I don't want to keep taking medicne for the headaches. The docter had recommended topamax but I could not get it beause it was to expensive.  Anymore advice will be helpful. Thank you.

To: trudee,
There is nothing much you can do but if your blood pressure is high and you suffer from other metabolic disorders . Follow up near the neurologist for your primary problem.
Weight loss is a good idea. Calculate your BMI and try to come into your accpetable limits with Physical exercise and balanced diet.
