Loss of Speach after Brain Surgery

Loss of Speach after Brain Surgery

My mom had emergency surgery on Saturday due to a fall and bleeding.  As I understand it, the portion of the brain that was impacted and the area where she was operated on was her left hand side.  She initially appeared to have been doing very well post surgery and was talking and communicating.  She subsequently started to have difficulties speaking and now she cant speak at all.  The doctors believe she is experiencing seizures and have place her on an anti-seizure medication.  She is 79 years old.  I am trying to better understand what long term impact seizures of this nature may be having on her brain and if we can hope for her speech to come back.

Hi there. There might have been some difficulty in speech due to damage to the speech area, the broaca’s speech area. If this is the case it is highly misfortunate and irreversible. Go back to your neurosurgeon for a review of these symptoms. it will resume if it is due to loss of articulation of words or mechanical. Take care.
