Lumbar Puncture

Last August ( 2007 ) I had viral Meningitis.  I was getting better, then they did a lumbar puncture, which was the most pain i have ever felt in my life.  Then i was very poorly for 2 weeks in hospital.  My blood pressure was very high.

Over the next few months i have seen a couple of Neurology Doctors about me feeling ill, faint, sick, feeling dizzy when i stand up, feeling that i was about to faint at any time.  I had to give up racing my Go KArt, as when ever i came out of a corner i felt like i was goint to faint.

I have been feeling this slight pain in my back, then it dawned on me that this pain is where the lumbar puncture was done.  It is tender to the touch and i still do feel ill, but i havn't mentioned this to a doctor yet.

Is it normal to feel this and could there be a problem

yes. i had my 8th lumbar puncture yesterday, and it is the most painful thing i've ever experienced. and it is normal to have pain even months after. ask  your dr for lidocain ointment 5%. it's a non narcotic cream that you rub into the skin/muscle, and it had saved me from more pain then anyone could immagine. it's colorless, orderless, and non narcotic. good luck!!!!
e-mail me if you wanna talk.
