Lump with tenderness on the back of my head?

by KoffeeKonsumer, Mar 09, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I have a lump on the back of my head that showed up rather suddenly(overnight). It is on the left side at the base of the skull, there is a small stiff mass which is tender and sometimes itchy with a constant dull pain. There is also some very slight swelling below the mass. I am wondering what may have caused this lump to appear so suddenly and what can I do to relieve it? I have also noticed a bit of stiffness in the muscle that goes from the base of the skull out to the shoulder, lately I have been doing some heavy lifting/somewhat strenuous activity - could the lump be tension related?
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

A boil? Blocked hair follicle? Swollen gland? Give it a couple of weeks and if still there see a doctor.
