MEG scan

MEG scan

my son is 7 and being referred for a MEG scan, what is this scan going to
reveal that the MRI and SPECT don't?  this test is being ordered for a surgical workup for MST surgery. thank you in advance

Dear Theresa:
MEG study is a type of EEG study that is used primarily to better localize the areas from which seizures are coming. Therefore, it is different from the typical MRI study that shows the structures and the anatomy of the brain and the SPECT study that shows the blood meatbolic activity of the brain.
These studies may be complementary.
Good luck
