MG

Can someone tell me what pesticide products to tell a treatment
company are safe to use in the house of an MG patient, if there are any?  Also, what precautions should be taken. I sure hope so, I live in Florida and we battle many different pests here.  I'm also considering getting my hair permed to save my energy from hairstyling and am wondering if these products are safe for me.

Dear Vicki:

Sorry to hear about your MG.  One thing to watch out for are over the counter medicines, ask your pharmacist for a list and tell him that you have MG.  Pesticides containing organic phosphates should be avoided.  Most of the time, if you are not around when they spray for bugs, you will be okay.  Some things we just do not know about.  If you notice that your need for mestinon is going up or your feeling weaker, then check around for what may be happening to your environment.  Get to know you body and how your muscle strength varies from dose to dose and throughout the day.  If you know how you feel when you are in good control than any abnormalities will be felt and then can be dealt with.  Be kind to your physician as he/she has lots of patients and can only be human with seeing everyone and knowing about all his/her patients.  Tell him/her what your doing so the office will be aware of what your needs may be.

Most pesticides will affect one with MG.  I have not been dx with MG yet, even though I have positive antibodies and a borderline SFEMG.  Well before I had the antibodies test done, they sprayed for ants at our work.  I felt like my throat was closing up on me and I had to leave that area of the office.  They told me that the spray would not affect anyone, even pregnant women because it was made from some flower or plant.  I have heard that powder borax is effective against ants, fleas and roaches.
