MRI

Hi,
I have had symptoms recently involving numbness and tingling in legs, and muscle aches in the legs. I get occasional pain down my arms and have an electric shock sensation when bending the neck. Also i have fluctuating extreme tiredness.
I recently had an MRI scan for possible MS, which came back ok except for an altered intramedullary signal at C2, described to me as a 'shadow'.
I was scheduled for another MRI of just the cervical spine area to investigate this, and it was ordered without contrast. During the scan, the technician came in to say they were discussing with the radiologist whether it was necessary to inject contrast dye, and they subsequently decided to do this.
What would be the reason for deciding to use contrast during the scan after some initial images were taken, and could it be possible they saw nothing on the non-contrast images, so injected dye just to make sure all was clear?
Thanks.

Hi,

MRI with contrast is a more sensitive test as compared to without contrast. Usually MRI is done initially without contrast but if a suspicious lesion shows up then MRI with contrast is done for better visualization and differentiating it from an artifact.
Thanks
