MRI: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CAVERNOUS ANGIOMA AND STOKE?

Posted By Barbara on October 10, 1998 at 18:47:59:

I would be interested to learn how a Neurologist can differenciate between a cavernous angioma and the physical characteristics of damage in the brain due to a stroke or anurism. I had a general MRI performed recently, and my Neurologist made a DX of cavernous angioma based on the images he reviewed. A follow-up, localized MRI has been ordered in a few months time to revisit the area and get a clearer view.
What factors or information is considered for a Neurologist to rule out the potential for hemmorage in the brain due to a stroke or anurism? As cavernous angioma involves damaged blood vessels in the brain, I am unclear as to how other considerations are ruled out.
Thank you very much for your assistance!
