MRI Results

I was rearended in a car accident in July 2007. I had my neck fused from the ront at 5/6 and 6/7. I also had right shoulder surgery. Ever since the accident I have been in chronic pain in my neck,back,arms,and shouldrs. I have vision problems and insomnia. I have weakness in my hands and legs. I have numbness in my hands and feet. I have ringing in my ears. I have IBS-D. I was knocked out in the accident. I had a neck and brain mri done before Thanksgiving this year. The neck mri showed narrowing of the spine. The brain mri showed. three small less than 5mm each foci of increased T2 signal in the right parietal periventricular white matter. The left cerebellar tonsil terminates at the level of the foramen magnum. The right cerebellar tonsil terminates 3mm below the foramen magnum. What does all this mean? I do not go back to my neurosurgeon until next week. Also I have been having heart palpitations. Im a 32 year old male.

Hi...when ur tonsils lye lower than the foramen magnum with the herniation being 5mm or larger it is called chiari malformation.

Chiari specialists also consider ne herniation less than 5mm to be chiari 0.......

U need a true chairi specialist and need tests to see what else may be going on.....like a syrinx, a CSF blockage ect.....

We do have a chiari forum with a list of drs that members have gone to...it is a great place to start research to find a dr.

Many of ur symptoms could be from the chiari, or something like a bulging disk blocking CSF ......

U will want to know if the low lying tonsils r congenital or aquired.......
