MRI result baffles Neuro?

I am a 40 year-old male. One month ago, I had my first-ever migraine-like experience. It was a 20 minute episode of a small blind-spot / w/ a shimmering aura. It resolved, never to return (at least not yet).

My sunsequent CT scan was normal, but when I had an MRI (w/ and w/o contrast) my neurologist seemed confused. He said, except for the possiblity that "a brain tumor is just starting" or "maybe the first sign of MS", he was baffled what this MRI result might mean:

"There is a small 3mm focus of FLAIR high signal intensity lining the left periatrial deep white matter, without abnormal enhancement. This is of unclear etiology or significance. Otherwise, this is an unremarkable MRI of the brain with and without contrast."

Is this kind of radiology report, in general, considered baffling? What are the odds such a result may indicate the start of a brain tumor or MS?

At present, given your clinical presentation of a single "migraine-like" experience and "baffling" MRI findings, it would be very premature and presumptuous to consider that you have multiple sclerosis (MS) or a brain tumor.  You could opt to observe if any other symptoms would develop and ask your neurologist for a repeat MRI after several months.
