MS Diagnosis ???

My daughter (age 39) had a severe viral infection over the holidays.  She lost her voice and after 4 or 5 weeks went to an ENT for help.  Her right vocal cord was not working at all but the left one was fine.  They ordered an MRI and she was told it came back abnormal.  She was told the 'high-lighted' areas were the ones that would affect her speech and suggested she may have MS.  Other recent symptoms include loss of taste and mild vertigo.  Of course, we are now looking for the best neurologist for this in the Dallas area.  She is otherwise a very healthy, happily married, mother of 2 girls.  My question is, given the history of the viral infection she had over the holidays, is it possible this is a lingering effect that may be causing inflamation (inflammation) in the brain?
