MS? Spine? help!

SB
I am searching for direction...9 months ago I began having symptoms in my right arm my Dr said it was a radiculopathy.
5 months later, I had more symptoms in both arms. he sent me for an EMG-normal and an MRI of the cervical spine-Normal.
In the past 2 months it seems (to me) that my symptoms are worse, and increasing, these are my symptoms.
-left/right arm squeezing pain and extreme numbness
-sore left foot
-itchy skin
- aching in left leg
- burning/itch on my face (only happened 3X)but onset was severe
- frequent urination (but have total control)
- 'tingling' up my back to my neck
I have had some other symptoms, but these are the most prominant and recurring. In the last week alone the 'numbness' in my arms is happening now every single time I lay down and wake up in the morning. I have not been scared through these past 3 months, but the past week I have been scared for the first time, I feel paralysed in my arms when I wake up and need assistance to move my arms and get them feeling again.
I saw my Dr. last week and he said he no longer feels I have a spinal problem (radiculopathy, stenosis, herniation) he said my symptoms are too long and he feels he has ruled out those possibilities by the MRI. Then he said he is now thinking MS...I'm SO CONFUSED?? Do my symptoms sound remotely MS related?? I thought MS symptoms were vision probs, and unsteadiness??
He is sending me to an internist for a second opinion.
Do you have any thoughts or advice for me? Like I said this has been 9 months of almost ongoing/daily probs.
Dr has me on percocet for pain.
I am 29 yrs old, female mother of 4 and work in a nursing home.
I know you cant diagnose over postings, but your thoughts on my symptoms would be so appreciated.
Thank you so much!
SB

I had the same problem waking up this morning, numbness in my arm.  It quickly went away when I awoke.  All of my symptoms started from muscle twinges, small pains in my legs that actually leave sore spots.  Started in my left leg, went to my right arm, my left arm, then my forearms, to my right leg.  Occasional tingling was initially felt, now this week a new thing, itches and a burning sensation.  If symptoms go away in one body part, they act up in another.  Maybe there is a strange, separate unknown disease that fits all of us...  Hope you're doing well & good luck...

Thank-you for your responce.
When radiologists look at MRI's would they look for demylenation even though the order was to look for a herniation/bulging disk?
I just want to feel reassured my films were looked at thoroughly

The most positive way to get a diagnosis of Multiple Schelorsis,
would be a MRI of the brain.  I am seeing a Neurologist for motor neuropathy (descending) and I had all of the following done
to rule out, MRI, Lab work extensive, EMG of both legs and of one
arm plus muscle biopsy.  To confirm his diagnosis.

You would need to get a brian MRI, it is the " gold standard"
( or so I was told by a technician of over 25 years at a neurology clinic) for DX'ing MS. I have researched MS thoroughly, because I, too , was having suspicious problems. You don't sound like you have it. From my research MOST people with MS -not all -  do have eye problems, and a dramatic onset ( like they can't move their arm) .Good Luck to you.

Sorry I also forgot add that I have cold hands also whenever I go outside, it takes them hours to warm up, and if they go numb they also get cold.
I saw a chiro for 4 months of therepy and he said I had lost strength in my right hand, my primary physician asked me to stop seeing chiro for the time being.
Thanks

Dear SB:

Sorry to hear about your symptoms.  If you had spinal cord MS, the MRI should have shown a demyelination process occurring.  This would be true in that you have had arm symptoms.  You really do not describe a waxing and waning of symptoms and therefore it you had MS, it would be progressive and you should definitely see changes on the neurological exam, along with the MRI.  It sounds like there is another process occurring.  A good neurological exam with some basic labs will help give your neurologist a direction to pursue.  You symptoms are so generalized, that it would seem that you might have a systemic problem such as a collagen vascular problem, vit B12 deficiency, autoimmune disorder, amyloid, effects from medications, etc.  The list is long and therefore the initial exam and testing are needed to give a direction.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
