: I was diagnosed with MS last November after which I also developed seizures.  My neurologist told me that seizures are "common" in MS but in the considerable amount of reading I've done on the subject I have found only two references to it and they both referred to seizures in MS as "rare."  Could you please talk to me about this?  I'm confused!
Dear Karen,
About 2-3% of patients with multiple sclerosis, at some point during the course of the disease, will have a seizure or recurrent seizures, presumably as a result of a lesion in the "cerebral cortex" or adjacent "white matter".  If seizures are reoccuring, anticonvulsant medications should be initiated and seizure precautions taken (no driving, bathing alone, climbing at heights etc.)  If you are interested in seeing a neurologist that specializes in MS at CCF, call 1-800-CCF-CARE.
