MS and Carbatrol

I've been diagnosed with primary progressive MS for approximately 2 years.  Although the progression has been slow, it has been constant--and increasingly painful.  I just returned from my neuro's today, and he suggested that I take Carbatrol for the pain.  I've searched the web all day today but have been unable to find anything discussing carbatrol's effectiveness in MS.  (Most of the info has been related to epilepsy.)  Any insights you can offer (i.e., side effects, addictiveness, etc.) would be helpful.  Thanks for whatever time you can devote to my question.
