Hi,

How are you?
A Lumbar herniated disc is a common cause of low back pain. Treatment options include oral pain medications, physical therapy and epidural steroid injections.
If the pain is intractable, and is not being relieved by conservative treatment alone surgery is the only option.
Discectomy or microdiscectomy where a part of the damaged disc is removed is usually done. Sometimes a portion of the bone covering the nerve also needs to be removed, this is known as laminectomy.
Please discuss these options with your orthopedic surgeon. Let me know if you need more information. Take care!
