Many Symptoms Could this be mistaken for Lymes Disease

by subdeb, Nov 26, 2001 12:00AM
Here is a list of my husbands symptoms which have started at least 3 years ago. Vibrating on right abdominal side of body. A sense of having wet feet, then numbing.Feet and legs feeling heavy. Lt. knee tight/squeezing sensation. sligtly off balance when he closes his eyes. Sitting for a long time is uncomfortable. Elevation of legs makes it worse. Seems like these symptoms change or move about between both legs.
Many test came back normal Cranial MRI.lower back mri, emg, blood work normal except of a low testorone. During his emg he said he could not tell if his toe were pointing up or down. Also was said to have a pinched nerve nd was told this could not cause any of the symtoms. After that test they did the Canial MRI. Sister in law RN suggested he be thoroughly tested for Lymes. He was diagnosed 14 years ago with acid reflux disease.
He does have a stressful life taking care our family 5 children I do stay at home. He is running his own business of 20 years installing carpet and Vinyl flooring. Being exposed to different gle and materials. He also has worn tight knee pads for years sometimes he forgot he was even wearing them.
Sorry about rambling on I thought the more you know about him the more help it would be.I should be thankful that he isn't in  pain. He needs help he wants to be better, wants to know what it is and the cause and any other suggestions you can provide.

Sorry to hear about your husband's symptoms. It sounds like he may have what's called a sensory peripheral neuropathy which affects the feeling his legs and their sense of position in space.  This can be caused by a large number of things such as vitamin B12 deficiency and exposure to chemicals such as glue.  However, an EMG should have been able to detect something if they did nerve conduction studies.  It doesn't sound like the typical presentation of Lyme's disease which is in many cases accompanied by a specific rash, joint pain, fever, and lab abnormalities, although there is a neuropathy associated with LYme disease similar to what I've described above. The tight knee pads may also contribute to his symptoms, causing decreased blood supply.  This can be tested by your primary doc with special pressure measurements of his legs.  Certainly stress can play a role in this, too.  If you do feel that he is getting worse, consider a second opinion and another EMG which perhaps might pick up something that wasn't there before.Good luck.

you should look into dysautonomia or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome/orthostatic intolerance, these both have alot of those symptoms, plus more. a test called a tilt table test is done to help find if a person has this, not sure if they have done this on your husband, but with his symptoms, they definitely should. if you have any questions, please email me if you have any questions about any of this at ***@****  i know how hard it is to figure out whats going on and the frustration, im hear to lend an ear and to help with suggestions etc. hope yall are doing ok, keep me posted and take care,
Adrienne

Today my husband had a visit with a infectious disease dr. he seems to think it is neuropathy caused by toxins. A few test were order to check toxins in his blood such as lead. My husband has been in the floor covering business all of his life. And hs been exposed to glues and synthetic fibers constantly. I just hope it does not get any worse.

I was diagnosed Dec 1995 with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  I serve in HM Forces live life to the limit, very very active person (or was) my various symptons started roughly 90/91.  My last attack was 1 Nov 01 had I have been off work since.  Symptons, chronic fatigue, burning sensation from neck to toes pain releif only by water.  Severe chest and stomach pains, weight lose, body simply curls up when I am tired.  Mind running away I have to do relaxation excercises to get to sleep.  Now unable to walk any distance.  Severe earache which causes an imbalance I have to lie on my front, sitting in lying in anyother position is painful after a few minutes.  I have to change my sheets every day now due to the night sweats.

I am however very positive, I read lots to distract my attention and do not enter any stressful situation as it causes my heart to race and body pain.  I am waiting to see a Neurologist, but have been told several time because I am not a Life or Death situation I am not an emergency, which is frustrating. I now have very good doctors and hopefully will find out what is actually wrong soon.  Until then I keep smiling!

I was 10 when i first got lymes and if you feel like you have broken your bone in any joint and dont remember when this could of happened you might consider a blood test.
