Hi - A relative of mine had an MRI done and it was 'normal' except that there
was a note" "...noted Incidentally, Mega Cisterna Magna." Can someone explain
to me what this means? I cannot seem to find anything on the Web and we do not
have an appointment with Neurologist until late next week. thanks in advance
The cisterna magna is a spinal fluid space in the back of the brain, more
specifically, it lies just posterior to the cerebellum. The space may be
enlarged for a few reasons, both normal and pathologic. This is likely an
incidental finding in your friend's case, though it is difficult to say without
seeing the MRI and examining your friend.
Speak to the neurologist for his opinion in this regard. Of course, if your
friend is having problems he should see the physician sooner than next week.
